Searching for a neighbourhood

Updated Thursday, February 16, 2012  ::  Views (6732)

Toronto is a big city and deciding where to live within that city can be a daunting task.    I still remember my experience as a first time buyer.  I worked downtown, no idea where to begin looking, my parameters - no more than half hour to downtown, good schools, close to transit - affordable within my budget .  I knew a bit of the east, but not the west.  Our realtor was a parent of a friend.  She only showed us the east end, and she introduced us to several neighbourhoods.     She said she would refer us to another realtor in other areas of the city, if we wanted to explore there as well.  I thought this odd at the time, we were going to buy, why not take us out there?  The answer was simple... she did not know beyond her area.  I have taken this honest response with me to my business.  If you are looking for a home, then you are also looking for a neighbourhood, not just the house.  I would never profess to know all of Toronto, but I know well the neighbourhoods I have lived in and those surrounding them. I look to friends and family and clients for opinions  and information on their neighbourhood, but I cannot know everywhere.  I also know realtors whose expertise lies in other areas of the city, and will not hesitate to refer a client to them. Keep this in mind when selecting your Realtor, our primary goal is to serve you well.
